GE Soybean Safety – Are We Being Duped Again?

One of the earliest genetically modified crops introduced into US farms was the GE Soybean, and while the popularity of soy foods is growing, the truth about the dangers of consuming the mutant soya bean may just shock consumers.

Introduced in 1996, the genetically modified soybean, which was designed to be resistant to the herbicide glyphosate, make up around 80% of all soybean planted in the US. Farmers are planting the modified soybean because they enjoy higher yield, among other things.

Sales of soybean products also skyrocketed through the years since consumers believed that the modified soybean was just as safe as the organic kind. Consumers, however, are going to be in for a surprise.

Is GE Soy Killing Rat Babies?

It will probably shock consumers when they find out that GE soy isn’t as safe as they originally thought it was. The dangers of mutant soybean became once more the attention of scrutiny after a Russian scientist came out with the results of her experiments on the mutant version of the soybean.

Irina Ermakova, of the Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), made a simple experiment by feeding GMO soy to mother rats. She also another batch of female rats with non-GMO soy. The third she didn’t feed any soy at all. What surprised her was when more than half of the GMO soy-fed rats’ offspring died as compared to the other two batches. Clearly, there’s something in the GMO soy.

Why Mothers Aren’t Telling Their Kids To Eat Their GE Fruits And Vegetables

solar lightingThese and more are just some of the reasons why mothers aren’t quick to tell their kids to eat their GE fruits and vegetables. Modified foods simply aren’t as safe as their organic counterparts – no matter what studies and experts may claim. And as long as there is still a choice, these mothers are making sure that they give their children only safe organic food.

That choice, however, is made more difficult because the US government does not require GMO food producers to label their products. Parents then have no way of knowing for sure whether the product they are buying is a GM product or a non-GM product. Still, by making sure to buy from reliable sources and organic farms, parents will be able to feed their kids safely. Also, since organic farmers are labeling their products as a way to give the consumers a choice, mothers should buy these organic products as a way to help the farmers.

Mothers can also start small gardens in their backyard. This way, they will be sure that the food they give their children will be GMO free vegetables. Mothers will be able to choose from a wide range of easy to plant vegetables that they can grow in their gardens. Learning some recipes that use the plants and vegetables that you plant will also help you in feeding your children healthy food. Before planting, however, parents should make sure that the seeds that they have came from non-GMO plants.
