After a long battle that the citizens fought against the authorities over naming the products having genetically manufactured foods so that they can distinguish between natural food and modified food, the government has given in to their terms. From 1st January 2013, the government has made it mandatory to label food products which contain genetically modified ingredients. As a green dot marks vegetarian and a red non-vegetarian, now the words GM will be a mark for genetically modified foods. This rule is applicable for around nineteen commodities including pulses, biscuits and other such food products. It is bring implemented to make people aware of the presence of any genetically modified food product in these items.
