Monsanto Vs Family Farmers: The Battle Continues

As family farmers cultivate organic crops on their farms, they face the mounting threat of cross contamination from GE pollens and seeds which are carried by the wind and pollinating agents. Apart from this, the farmers now face the annoying threat of litigation from the biotech companies especially, Monsanto who between 1997 and 2010 have filed 144 lawsuits against farmers with another 700 cases settled out of court for alleged infringement on their patent rights on GMOs that are on their farmlands. The family farmers who carry the cost of cleaning their farms and bearing the losses on organic food sales. To protect themselves from these spurious litigations, the farmers filed a lawsuit against Monsanto, the case was dismissed but the farmers have not relented in their fight as they continue the battle against Monsanto.
