Poland to Ban Monsanto’s GM Corn
While the struggle to label GMOs continues in the U.S., Europe, where labeling is mandatory, genetically engineered (GE) crops are restricted or banned in most countries. Seven European countries; Belgium, Britain, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ireland and Slovakia have recently blocked a proposal by the Danish EU presidency to allow the cultivation of GE plants on the continent. Already, France have placed
a temporal ban on Monsanto’s MON 810 strain and Poland is following suit as the agriculture minister, Marek Sawicki, announced plans to completely ban the growth of MON 810 strain due to its link to a
plethora of health issues and the pollen from this GM strain devastating the already dwindling bee population.
