With the growing public interest on GMO approvals and the legal challenges that follow the processes, the USDA wants to speed up the approval of more GMOs. As reported by Bloomberg News, the time taken by corporations like Monsanto and Dow Agro sciences to get their products from the lab to the market will be shortened from about 3 years to 18 months, some GMOs will be approved in about a year from their application time. This would mean a shorter public comments period at an earlier stage of the approval process in addressing concerns of environmental analysis and risk assessment. Biotech industry analysts support the adjustment as it will get more GMO7 to the market and beat the competition from countries like Brazil. The propose changes have not been made available for public comments.
